Lighting

Show the description

Our full lighting range: wall sconces, pendants, table lamps, floor lamps and ceiling fixtures, all designed in the Scandinavian tradition. Useful first, decorative second.

What Nordic lighting actually means

It is a response to the dark. In Scandinavia the winter gives you a few hours of grey daylight, so interior lighting there is not about brightness. It is about putting several small, warm, low pools of light around a room instead of one bright source overhead. That is why a Nordic home usually has more fixtures than you would expect and fewer of them on the ceiling.

How to light a room the Nordic way

Aim for three light sources per room at three different heights: something overhead or at ceiling level, something at eye level on a wall, and something low, such as a table lamp or floor lamp. Put them on separate switches or dimmers so you can take the room from working-bright to evening-low. Use 2700K bulbs or warmer throughout; mixing colour temperatures in one room is the single most common mistake.

Browse by fixture

Wall sconces for bedsides, bathroom mirrors and hallways. Pendant lights for kitchen islands, dining tables and stairwells. Table and floor lamps for the low layer in a living room. Planter lights, which combine a fixture with a plant pot. Children's lighting for nurseries, and outdoor wall lights rated for porches and garden walls.

Materials

Glass in clear, amber, opal and ribbed. Hand-painted ceramic. Real marble and travertine. Unlacquered and brushed brass. Oak, walnut and birch. Powder-coated steel in black, white and sand.
