Erling – Bauhaus Walnut-Finish Pendant Light
Erling – Bauhaus Walnut-Finish Pendant Light
Description
The Bauhaus never decorated a thing it could simply resolve. Erling is built on that idea — a wide, shallow disc on a slim cord, the shade doing the work and nothing else asking for attention. Switched off it reads as a quiet walnut-toned saucer against the ceiling. Switched on it lays a broad, even pool of light across the table, which is the only thing a dining room light really has to do.
Light you can eat under
The bulb inside is full-spectrum and rated RA97 — a colour rendering figure most pendants never publish, because most pendants sit closer to RA80. At RA97 the wood of the table reads as wood, food looks like food, and skin tones stay true rather than turning grey. It ships at 2700–3000K warm white, the temperature that makes a dining room feel like an evening rather than an office. The shade is deep enough that the source sits recessed inside it, so you get the pool of light without a bare bulb in your eyeline across the table.
A standard E27 fitting, so the light is yours to change
Erling takes a standard E27 screw fitting, and the full-spectrum RA97 warm white bulb is included — so there is nothing to buy on day one. But because the fitting is standard rather than sealed, the light isn't fixed the way an integrated pendant's is:
- Want it dimmable? Fit a dimmable E27 bulb, or a smart E27 bulb that dims from your phone with no wall dimmer at all.
- Want a cooler light? Swap in a 4000K or 6000K E27 and the same fixture reads completely differently.
- Want it on a schedule, or on voice? Any smart E27 bulb drops straight in.
- And when the bulb eventually goes, you replace a bulb — not the light.
Walnut finish, not walnut veneer
Erling's shade is iron on an ABS and metal chassis, finished in a matte walnut tone with chrome detailing. It is deliberately not timber: a real wood veneer sitting directly above a heat source will eventually lift, darken or crack, and a shade this shallow puts the finish close to the bulb. The frosted spray finish holds its colour, doesn't gloss up under the light, and wipes clean — which matters more than you'd think over a dining table.
Two sizes, and how to choose
Medium, 30 cm — for a round table seating four, a breakfast nook, or a pair hung over a kitchen island. Small enough to double up without the ceiling feeling busy.
Large, 40 cm — for a rectangular table seating six or more, hung as a single centred fixture. The wider disc spreads light further across the table's length.
As a rule, hang the shade about 75–85 cm above the tabletop. That is low enough to feel intimate and high enough to see the person opposite you. The suspension cord is 180 cm and adjustable, so you can set that height at installation and change it again if you move.

Common questions
Is Erling made of real wood?
No. The shade and body are metal and ABS, finished in a matte walnut tone. We'd rather tell you that plainly than let a photograph imply timber.
Does it need a bulb?
No — a full-spectrum RA97 warm white bulb is included. It's a standard E27 screw fitting, so you can swap in any E27 bulb you like later.
Is it dimmable?
Yes, with a dimmable E27 bulb. Pair one with a compatible wall dimmer, or fit a smart E27 bulb and dim it from your phone without changing any wiring.
Can I get a cooler, whiter light?
Yes. Erling ships warm white at 2700–3000K, but any standard E27 bulb fits — so a 4000K or 6000K bulb will change the character of the room without changing the fixture.
How far does it hang down?
The cord is 180 cm and can be shortened at installation, so Erling suits standard 2.4 m ceilings and rooms up to about 3 m.
Can I hang two over a kitchen island?
Yes — the 30 cm is the size to use for that. Space them roughly 75–90 cm apart and centre the pair on the island rather than on the room.
What size do I need for a six-seat table?
The 40 cm as a single pendant, or two 30 cm hung along the length of the table.
Where it works
Over a dining table, above a kitchen island, in a breakfast nook, behind a home bar, or centred over a small meeting table. Erling sits comfortably in mid-century and Bauhaus-leaning rooms — walnut, black metal, plaster, leather — and quietly enough that it won't fight a room doing something else.
