Battery operated and rechargeable wall sconces give you a wall light with no cord, no wall box and no electrician. Each one runs on a built-in battery, so you can put light exactly where you need it: beside a bed, along a hallway, inside a wardrobe or next to a reading chair in a rental you cannot rewire.
It depends on how you use the light. On continuous light, expect roughly 8 to 15 hours between charges, depending on the model and brightness setting. In motion-sensor mode the light only switches on when someone walks past, so a single charge can stretch to weeks or months. Each product page lists its own figures.
Motion-sensor sconces (Odin, Arne and the Rikard motion version) switch on as you approach and off again after a short delay, which makes them ideal for hallways, stairs and closets. Touch-dimmable sconces (Rikard, Karl) let you set the brightness by hand for a bedside or living room. Almod adds a remote control, two light sources (a reading light and a night light) and three color temperatures, so you can adjust it without getting out of bed.
Most models sit on a magnetic wall plate. Fix the plate with the included adhesive or with screws, then the light snaps on and lifts off again for charging. Use adhesive and there are no holes; when you move out, all that is left on the wall is a small plate.
The rechargeable models charge by USB cable (Odin uses USB-C, and Almod charges fully in under 3 hours). Lift the light off its plate, plug it in, and put it back when it is done.
Bedside walls with no outlet, hallways and stairs (motion sensor), reading corners, closets and wardrobes, gallery walls where a cord would ruin the look, and rental apartments where you cannot touch the wiring. If you would rather have a light that never needs charging, see our plug-in wall sconces.
Want the details before you choose? Our rechargeable wall sconce guide compares run times, charging and mounting heights for every model.
Almod has a dedicated reading light for a book at arm's length. The other models are built for ambient light and night light, so pair them with a lamp if you read a lot.
No. There is no wiring at all.
Yes. Mount the plate with adhesive and nothing needs drilling.
People use both terms for the same thing. A rechargeable sconce is battery operated: the battery is built in and you recharge it instead of replacing it.
